What's your car's name?

As Jalops and Opponauts, we all form some sort of emotional connection to our cars, whether it be positive or negative. Because of these emotions, we feel a sense of connectedness to our automobiles and we will often give them names. So, what is the name of your car? I guess we can do motorcycles as well because I know there are a lot of "two wheels awesome" Jalops out there!

I'll start. My Outback's name is Ca$h. Yes, the "s" is a dollar sign. Yes, I know it is dumb, but the car is the color of dolla dolla bills y'all.

Kinja'd!!!

My Baja Bug was just recently named Sahara. My mom actually came up with this name for me. I didn't like it at first, but it just kind of stuck.

Kinja'd!!!

Let me hear the names of your rides! Pictures would be appreciated. GO!

My first car was The Pink Nightmare. Literally. Desert Rose factory paint on a 95 Mercury Mystique.

I didn't name my Explorer, but my old boss called it The Green Machine.

I've taken to calling my XJ either Princess, because she enjoys a mud bath, or SexJ, because I have the sense of humor of a 12 year old.

I haven't named either of my motorcycles, just called them by Ninja or Yamaha.

For every car or bike I've owned, I'd use the first letter of the make or model, and name it after a girl with whom I've had familiar relations that shares the same first letter. For example, my Honda CBR's name was Heather. My GSX-R's name was Siobhan. My A6 was called Audrey, and my Wrangler is called Julie.

I briefly lived in Germany and had a red Golf II 5-door named Lederhosen. It wasn't terribly original as far as names go, and I wasn't anywhere near Bavaria. It's the only time I named a car.

Hezekiah. '98 'scort wagon.

Kinja'd!!!

Bailey. It was stamped onto the ignition key when I got it; not sure if it was the bike's or the owner's name, but it's the bike's name now.

My other two cars aren't really mine; I have a '99 F-250 that was too good of a deal to pass up, so I bought it even though I didn't really need a truck, and now it lives at my parents house, since they need a truck more often than I do. I never named it, since I rarely drive it. My wife's car is an '03 Escape. I kept telling her she needed to name it, and after a year, she announced it was "Marygold" (as in 'Merry gold', not Marigold like a flower) — I think she just wanted to shut me up lol.

A few of my past named vehicles:

Kinja'd!!!

'Packard', an '87 F-250 4x4

Kinja'd!!!

'Larry', as in 'Larry the Cucumber', a '93 Suburban.

Kinja'd!!!

'Kug'. The original plate number ended in 'KUG'. Notice Packard pre-paint in the background. '05 Sebring Convertible.

Kinja'd!!!

'Ralph' from The Mouse & The Motorcycle - - a '93 Civic CX.

Kinja'd!!!

'The Tomato Crate' — a '73 Wagoneer. Man I miss that thing and its sloppy suspension.

Kinja'd!!!

'Rag Rocket', the first vehicle I ever named — a '92 Miata. I drove 1200 miles to pick it up after buying it off Autotrader, and DD it for 5 years, putting over 100k miles on it. Sold it for $300 more than I paid for it.

I loved Larry until the tranny went out. My mom used to have an '87, back when I was a kid, and it lost 2 transmissions. After I lost mine, I decided I'd had enough with Chevys, as that's apparently a pretty common problem with the Chevy trucks. Aside from that, though, it was awesome. Loved all the room — 8 adults (we had bucket front seats) with lots of leg & elbow room, and still enough room for 4 dogs in the back.

Yep the transmission on my dad's is finally going to shit after 25,000 miles. Its a shame cause that car has more life in it. We used it for road trips all the time when I was a kid and it served us well. I'll shed a tear when my dad finally has to part with it.

I'm assuming you mean 250k... in which case wow, he did pretty good. My mom's suburban had 150k on it by the time she'd sold it, and had gone through two transmissions in that time. Mine had 114k.

Clairette (claret), Claire for short. She was going to be called Scarlet, but that seemed too sexy and sultry a name for a humble minivan with a big goofy smile. Successor to Bertha (525i) & Betsy (320i), relative to Blanche (E320 or Vanagon- white), Sadie (E320 - silver), Fred (528e - Bronzit) and a few others that I can't recall.

The Windscar didn't have a personality so it didn't get a name, only that derogatory appellation.

Mom was usually the one giving out the car names, but then again, at one time she named anything and everything (address book, vacuum cleaner and other household objects) for reasons still unknown to me 40 years on...

I had initially planned to give my car an aircraft theme. I had already begun the back story based on the fictitious plane called Firefox from the Clint Eastwood movie of the same name.

Most of you have seen my shifter and the embedded computer between the seats. I had even developed a replacement screen for the nav screen.

But, then I developed my replacement shield overlay. And had overlays made for all external emblems including wheel caps.

My overlay was intended as a spoof on the Corvette Racing mascot, Jake. One day (I think it was at Mid-Ohio), Cubby or Mark, or someone in the MMs called it Elwood (Jake's brother from the movie Blues Brothers). And it fit, became accepted as a given, and the rest is history. I ran with it and everyone now knows the car as ELWOOD. PJ even had T-Shirts made up for the Team Elwood Racing crew (we put the following on the Cadillac Racing T-Shirts)

P.S. Jake and Elwood do hang out together every now and then:

It's gonna be slammed. In fact I should be able to put it on the ground to see the ride height tomorrow. The patina is staying, the rust HOLES are not. Then it's getting converted to 5 lug, so it can take 2013 Beetle Heritage wheel and low profile tires. Easier said than done, because you have to mini tub the front end the fit them. I have a rack I want, but I dunno if the car will be far enough along to buy it before the show season this year. Converted it to carbs to save the headache. I have an interior overhaul kit for it, but that might not get installed before the shows. Right now just trying to get the wheels under it, and get it operational.

Then next winter, bags and Subbie power. I'd like to put a '63 Ghia dash in it, but I dunno if i wanna do all that work. Oh, and wanna try for modern Corvette power to weight with the Subaru mill.

Don't tell anyone because it's an upcoming adventure that I'll post about when I do it, but I own a legit Euro only '67 Beetle I've never even seen that I have to go get at some point.
